Alan entered the financial services industry in 1975 after graduating from Northwestern University with a BA in Honors Sociology and election to Phi Beta Kappa in 1974.  He relocated to New Jersey in 1978 joining his father and Berger Financial Group in 1978.  He was appointed Co-Managing Partner with his brother Richard Berger in 1983.  While a Managing Partner, Alan played an active role in his industry; serving as the President of the NJ Association of Life Underwriters in 1989-1990, earning his Life Membership in the Million Dollar Round Table as well as New England Financial Leaders Association.  In 1998-1999 he was elected President of the New England Financial General Agents Association.  Alan stepped down as Managing Partner in 2008 to resume personal production and retirement planning.

Active in his community as well as his profession, Alan served for many years as a Board Member and Vice President of the Jewish Community Center.  He served as the President of Hollywood Country Club in Deal, NJ in 1998-2000, as well as serving on the Board of Trustees of Jersey Shore Medical Center.  He continues to remain active in his business and community, spending the majority of his time in New Jersey and Asheville, North Carolina with his wife Karen.
